#Employee Spotlight Interview:
Meet Logan Bui: Dedicated Embedded Engineer Bringing Passion and Expertise to Onsite Work in Singapore
September 6,2023 by STYL Solutions
Welcome to our Employee Spotlight interview series, where we highlight the stories and achievements of our exceptional team members. Today, we are thrilled to introduce Logan Bui, an engineer who brings a remarkable blend of passion and expertise to our team. With significant contributions in the role of Senior Embedded Engineer, Logan has truly stood out.
Let's pause for a moment and join us on an exhilarating journey to explore his inspiring story.
1. What motivated you to pursue a career in embedded engineering?
In high school, I was uncertain about my career path and considered options like becoming a doctor or an engineer. Luckily, I passed the entrance exam for the Faculty of Information Technology at HCMC University of Technology. Joining the BKIT4U club, I gained knowledge in Embedded Systems, and building and programming robots for Robocon strengthened my interest. Learning about microcontrollers, circuits, and hardware techniques fueled my passion for a career in Embedded Engineering.
2. What attracted you to STYL Solutions?
I think people select and dedicate themselves to a company due to what it offers them, and I share this belief at STYL. I’m attracted by:
The dynamic work atmosphere at STYL, where I handle numerous projects concurrently and have the opportunity to exercise independent problem-solving. This environment encourages me to proactively manage tasks, set priorities, and innovate solutions.
Connecting directly with customers and understanding their real-world experiences: One exciting part is getting to meet customers who use our products. This helps me understand how they feel when the product has problems and gives me insights into the everyday situations our product deals with. Based on these experiences, I can improve the product and make operations better to make sure customers are happy.
Exciting Projects with Positive Impact: I'm currently engaged in projects that capture my interest and create meaningful benefits for users and the community. For example, in the "Smart Buddy" project, we've developed a solution for students to use wearable watches or cards to make meal payments while also helping parents manage expenses. Another project, "RS128," focuses on contactless subway gate payments, particularly relevant during the Covid-19 pandemic. Additionally, the "Tilt Sensor" initiative involves using wireless sensors on trees to monitor their stability, vital for preventing potential hazards in urban areas.
Becoming a member of STYL uncovers numerous captivating aspects, and I believe that the challenges and opportunities within the company will greatly contribute to my personal growth and ability to shape the future.
3. How did you manage to secure an opportunity to work onsite at our headquarters in Singapore?
Since joining STYL, I've excelled in its supportive atmosphere, demonstrating my skills and pursuing my technical interests. My commitment and passion have been acknowledged by leaders, leading to various opportunities such as working at the headquarters, participating in important projects, exploring new technologies, collaborating with talented colleagues, and reaching desired income levels – all of which have improved my life.
And it's not only for me – STYL's culture also provides team members with the opportunity to travel to Singapore for learning and work, which is particularly advantageous for career growth.
4. Relocating to a new country must have presented its fair share of challenges. Could you tell us a little about your experience in Singapore?
When I arrived to work in Singapore, I faced several challenges.
At first, language was a big challenge. Even though my English was decent, I often had to ask people in Singapore to talk slower and repeat things for me to understand. It took a few months, but I eventually got used to it and became more confident in communicating well here.
In addition, I had to get used to the culture and food in Singapore. It's a diverse country with many different ethnic groups and religions mixing together. This has helped me learn more about different ways of doing things, but there are some foods that are made for religions I don't follow, like dishes with lots of Curry. In Singapore, people usually eat at Food Courts where there are a lot of different kinds of food and drinks, but I still miss and really want Vietnamese food when I compare the two.
Another challenge I faced was the relatively high cost of living in Singapore. This has affected my socializing and entertainment habits. Compared to Vietnam, I go out for drinks with colleagues less often and can't participate in weekly soccer games like before. Instead, I've switched to running and enjoying the fresh air in Singapore.
Even though starting anew was tough, each difficulty actually helped me grow as a person. It let me learn about different cultures and, in the end, make more money 😆
5. Can you share an example of a project where your passion for embedded engineering truly shone through?
Right now, I'm mainly focused on the RS128 project. This project is all about creating a Contactless Reader, also called the SIRIUS SR128, with a 7-inch screen. The main goal of the project is to make it easy for people to get into subway stations by simply tapping their debit or credit cards, making entry and exit much more convenient.
The project comes with interesting challenges that need good teamwork between me and my colleagues in Singapore and Vietnam. Since I'm the one directly talking to customers, the biggest challenge is understanding what customers want, figuring out how their current system works, and then explaining all of this clearly to my team in Vietnam. After that, I work together with my team to meet these requirements. Every time we solve a problem, I learn valuable skills and information from both customers and colleagues.
Knowing that this project helps the community and that my bosses trust me with this responsibility really motivates me. That's why I'm putting in all my effort to make sure the project succeeds.
6. In conclusion, what message would you like to share with aspiring engineers or individuals seeking to pursue their passions?
Currently, I still feel that I haven't achieved enough success to provide truly profound advice to all of you. But you know, I have taught myself and explored to figure out what I like. I've identified my own passion and earnestly turned it into efforts to pursue that passion, to become a Logan Bùi of the Embedded team at STYL as I am today.
And you can do the same. “Chase your passions, and success will follow you”.
I'm grateful to STYL for providing the conditions for my growth and development. Thank you all for giving me special attention in this spotlight, and allowing me the opportunity to share with everyone my journey of pursuing my passion.
Thank you, Logan.
Your willingness to share your journey and experiences is genuinely appreciated and has offered valuable insights to both our team and the larger community. We are excited about the opportunity to showcase your story.
Thank you once again for your integral contribution to our Employee Spotlight!

"Logan provides very good support to our main customer, LTA on the RS128 project and also support all projects that involve NFC reader in Singapore like Smart Buddy, Sodexo and etc. He works very hard and is always the last person to leave the office, never hear complaints from him and this is a very good attitude."

"Logan, you might get the impression that the lead actor of X-Men is the superhero of my team in Vietnam. He is always willing to take on challenging tasks with his best effort, even if it means working late or on the weekends. The first time I met him more than 8 years ago, I was surprised that he was an IT guy because his muscles were stronger than most other IT developers. His health is really good for working or assisting with some hobby projects from other teams if needed. In real life, you can't make everybody love you, but this guy manages to do just that. I haven't received any complaints from others during their time working with him."

Thank you, Logan!"
